A little info about turquoise treatments:
this necklace is authentic vintage item - the turquoise is natural and not reconstituted- it has a unique patterns and veins which would be lost in melting/pressing process. it may be stabilized in some ways to preserve it. (there is no oxidizing that is why it is most likely was stabilized).
stabilizing is used to protect the turquoise from absorbing moisture (from the air and from the body when worn) and from changing the color. I would personally prefer to wear stabilized turquoise, but it is everybody own's preference.
So a little information about turquoise treatments - a stabilizing is most common and used to preserve hardness and color. turquoise is soft, porous and easy oxidizes! the stabilizing is not that bad. What you don’t want is reconstitution, which is powder, basically dust…poured into a mold then formed into a stone shape.” The resulting concoction becomes too altered to be called turquoise.
Stabilized stones, however, offer a more affordable alternative for both buyers and sellers.
Today, only 3 percent of natural, mined turquoise is hard enough to set(as result even a small cabochon or a bead would be priced high enough, for the strand you would expect to pay a fortune!) The rest, pulled from the mine’s remnants, is stabilized and sold in bulk. if you want a real untreated turquoise - antique is your choice - you will see with your eyes that it has oxidizing and change of the color. I am sure you can find more information about it online. thank you!
